My approach to teaching.

I have been teaching languages in Spain, England and Scotland, at different education centres, language schools and summer residential courses since 2005.

Working in different settings and countries has given me the opportunity to develop my own teaching style, gain plenty of experience teaching different languages, as well as the possibility to interact with people from different countries, with different backgrounds and ages, and understand their needs and challenges they face when learning a language.

I have had the privilege of speaking several languages from an early age. I grew up in a multicultural home and island, so I enjoy being surrounded by people from different countries.
Venezuela, Italy, Spain, England and Scotland are a big part of my life, so I know what it feels like when you have to adapt to a new language and to a new culture. I also understand the process students go through when they learn a new language.

Small groups help have a relaxed atmosphere. Students feel more at ease and comfortable participating in class.

I enjoy preparing participative activities, exercises that challenge the knowledge of the students and help the communicative development of the language.

Taking into account that people learn in many different ways, I use a variety of approaches to help the students in the learning process, for them to develop their confidence, fluency and accuracy in the different skills: listening, reading, writing, speaking, grammar and vocabulary. I include cultural materials that help understand the culture of the country. I also take into account the interests and specific needs of the students.

I love teaching different ages. Teaching children allows me to use my creativity, doing crafts, singing and telling stories. Teaching teenagers is always a challenge while I try to engage them and teach them to think by themselves and have an opinion about different topics. When I teach adults, it is important to find practical ways to use what we are studying.

Website recommendation: English e-Reader

You can search a book by author, title, or level, and start reading one you find interesting. You have the option of reading it online or downloading i t  📚 ,  as well as listening to it. 🎧  Graded readers are a great way to read at a level you can understand, and practise vocabulary and structures you should be practising. ✔️ Please remember to choose a book at your level, don't aim to read higher ones, you might get frustrated, spend more time looking for words in the dictionary, and not really focus on the basics you need to know first. 🤔 To test yourself: would you be able to summarise the story using your own words?
